Lustena vs LayerX

LayerX, now part of Akamai as Workforce Protector, is a browser security extension that protects data in GenAI tools, blocks personal-account logins to AI and controls risky browser extensions. Lustena also runs in the browser but is an AI governance control plane: every agent, including code agents and coding assistants, gets a named owner, versioned limits and an audit trail.

When to pick each

Lustena or LayerX

Pick it when

Lustena

You need to know which agents exist, who owns each one and what it is allowed to do, across the browser, code agents and coding assistants.

LayerX

Your priority is browser security in general: GenAI DLP, blocking personal AI accounts, controlling risky extensions and agentic browsers, from a large security vendor.

Governance

Lustena

Versioned limits per agent in six dimensions: tools, MCP servers, hosts, data classes, autonomy and schedule. Crossed limits reach your channels through webhooks.

LayerX

Browser policies for GenAI use, including blocking logins to AI tools with personal accounts.

Security

Lustena

Twelve data classes classified on the device, including email addresses, payment cards, API keys, private keys and national formats such as Brazil's CPF and CNPJ, and Brazilian phone numbers. Findings are content-free; warn, block or redact per data class on the Enterprise plan. A red-team scanner runs ten agent-native checks mapped to the OWASP LLM Top 10.

LayerX

GenAI DLP that can monitor, warn, prevent or redact, plus browser extension risk control and coverage for agentic browsers.

Observability

Lustena

Sessions per app, team and agent, model and volume per agent through the SDK and the LiteLLM connector, one audit trail and evidence packages for GDPR, EU AI Act, ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF, AIUC-1 and LGPD.

LayerX

Visibility into GenAI use in the browser as part of Akamai's workforce security offering.

Deployment

Lustena

A browser extension published by policy through Google Admin, Microsoft Intune or Jamf; most teams see their first agents within an hour. Nothing is installed inside the agents. Self-hosted and SSO on the Enterprise plan.

LayerX

A browser extension on the browsers you already use.

Frequently asked questions

Is LayerX now Akamai?

Yes. Akamai completed its acquisition of LayerX on July 2, 2026, and the product is offered as Akamai Workforce Protector.

When is LayerX a better choice than Lustena?

When you want broad browser security from one vendor: GenAI DLP, blocking personal accounts on AI tools, controlling risky extensions and covering agentic browsers, alongside Akamai's other products. Lustena does not block personal-account logins or manage other extensions.

Both are browser extensions. What is different?

The unit of control. LayerX protects the browser session and the data in it. Lustena builds an inventory of agents, each with an owner and versioned limits, and extends it beyond the browser to code agents through the Python SDK and to coding assistants through the MCP server.

Does Lustena read prompt content?

No, not by default. Twelve data classes are classified on the device and findings are content-free. Opt-in redacted capture is an Enterprise plan feature with its own retention and audited reads.

How fast is a Lustena rollout?

The extension is published by policy through Google Admin, Microsoft Intune or Jamf, and most teams see their first agents within an hour. Nothing is installed inside the agents.
